Women who ride motorbikes, off their bikes and on them. Here is the picture that will be the poster for this project.

This project came about because I took a picture of my friend Louisa, in her kitchen. I realised how different she looked when she was not on her motorbike.

What crept into my head were the images of people at motorway stops looking away or looking at me with a curiosity and, I got the sense of, a slight looking down. Although that may have been my own state of mind.

Normally my hair is wet, flattened and generally disheveled. So perhaps the looks are pity, who knows. But I began to think about assumptions, the instant assumption when presented by a particular look. So slightly messy, not perfectly presented, not the sort of image shown on social media. Not at all.

I wanted to show the difference, the women who ride, both off their bikes and on them.

This project has now been exhibited at several venues. The next stage is to make a beautiful book with the other images that I’ve taken. I now have 12 diptych images and will be adding to them this year. I’m still looking for women who are experienced motorbike riders from all and as many diverse backgrounds as is possible.

This is the format the pictures will be when printed
